Rev. Howard C. Wright is from the Eastern Shore of Maryland where he was educated in the public schools of Wetipquin, Quantico and Salisbury. He received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Education degrees from Bowie State College (now Bowie State University); an administrative/supervision certification and an advanced professional certification from the State of Maryland; and a primary certification in Old and New Testament histories from Washington Bible College.
Rev. Wright currently serves as pastor of Grace African Methodist Episcopal Church in Catonsville, Md. Before being assigned to Grace, he pastored at Hemingway Temple A.M.E. Church in Cherry Hill, Md.; Ebenezer A.M.E. Church in Ft. Washington, Md.; and Falls Road A.M.E. Church in Baltimore. He also served as an associate minister to Rev. Leon G. Lipscombe at Allen A.M.E. Church in Washington, D.C. Rev. Wright was a Sunday School teacher/superintendent at his home church, Embry A.M.E. Church in College Park, Md. He also served on the Trustee Board.
Throughout his career, Rev. Wright has been actively involved in the community. He was chairman of the Chemical People’s Task Force of Cherry Hill; Youth Alcohol Education Counselor for the Prince George’s County Health Department; chairman and vice chairman for the Board of Visitors of Bowie State College; and president of the Cherry Hill Ministerial Alliance, an interdenominational ministers’ association.
He also enjoys a variety of interests. He has been a real estate salesman, retail manager and professional barber. His hobbies include carpentry, landscaping, gardening, listening to music and watching and participating in sports, particularly basketball. He retired from the Prince George’s County public school system in June 2004 after 36 years of service (22 years as a principal, two years as an administrative assistant, one year as a resource teacher and 11 years as a classroom teacher). His goal in life is to be a positive, effective and inspiring person.
Rev. Wright is married to Mildred Jennings Wright of Houston, Texas, and they have eight children and six grandchildren.
